Nolah vs Puffy – Delivery & Set Up

nolah mattress delivery A huge benefit you get from buying either a Nolah or Puffy mattress is that they are both made right here in the USA, using many American made materials as well. Which is a huge benefit when it comes to the delivery and unboxing experience.

For one, it tends to get to you faster than a mattress built overseas, while the Puffy and Nolah mattress also have a lot less “new mattress smell”. While other mattresses are kept in their boxes while being shipped overseas and then stored for an extended period of time until you place your order. Instead Nolah and Puffy make their mattresses to order and then they ship from their American based factories.

Nolah and Puffy also use higher quality materials than most. All of their foams are CertiPUR US certified which means any scent your new mattress does give off, you can rest assured that it is not unsafe to have in your home.

When you order your new mattress, your bed will ship to your home in about one week or so. Then you will be able to take the compact box to your room of choice where you can then unbox and watch it come to life. We highly suggest leaving your mattress to firm up and air out in a well-ventilated room for at least several hours before use. This will help allow the mattress to reach it’s true firmness level as well as get rid of any potential lingering packaging smell.

Comfort – Puffy vs Nolah

nolah mattress comfort The comfort of these two mattresses is really one of the biggest differences between the Puffy and Nolah mattress. The Nolah mattress is a bit softer coming in around a 5 – 5.5 on our firmness scale of 1 (super soft) – 10 (extra firm). Making the Nolah a Medium firmness level overall. With it’s memory foam comfort layers we found that is has great pressure relief and will work best for side sleepers.

While the Puffy mattress comes in around a 6 – 7 firmness level. This makes the mattress more of a Medium-Firm comfort level. Which is really our sweet spot that has the most universal comfort. By this we mean that almost all sleeping positions will find this level of firmness to be comfortable. Whether you like to sleep on your back, stomach, side, or a bit of all of them. You will likely be able to get some comfortable sleep on the Puffy’s Medium-Firm mattress.

Mattress Construction & Materials

Puffy – Materials:

As we mentioned previously, the Puffy mattress has a rather simple design consisting of only three foam layers. We will work our way up from the top to the bottom to see how it is built.

puffy mattress materials

The base from in the Puffy mattress is made of their Firm Core Support Foam, this is a dense thick layer of foam that provides the majority of the bulk of the mattress as well and lots of support. This is a great foundation for the rest of the mattress.

The middle layer if made from Puffy’s ClimateComfort Foam. This has a cooling gel that helps keep the mattress cool from the inside out. It also serves as a transitional layer between the top comfort layer and the base foam.

Finally there is a the top layer of foam which is the famous Cooling Cloud Foam, that has the extra cooling gel infusion. This adaptive memory foam conforms nicely to your body while not letting you sink too far into the bed.

To wrap it all together is Puffy’s cover. This Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified fabric is made to zip off and wash easily. It is also stain resistant and breathable. Which is just about everything you could possible want out of a mattress cover.

Nolah – Materials:

nolah mattress details materials Similar to the Puffy mattress, Nolah has 3 different foam layers. The base foam is a 7 inch layer of their High-Density foam. This is a US made breathable base foam that helps support the other comfort layers.

Next up is their transitional layer of foam. They use what they call a Deep Supportive High-Resilience Foam for this layer. This is 1 inch of durable latex. This makes the Nolah a more responsive feeling foam mattress. Which keeps your from feeling stuck or too stuck in the mattress.

Their top layer of foam is the Cooling Nolah AirFoam. This is 2 inches of pressure relieving breathable memory foam. This is a higher quality memory foam that resists holding onto heat better than old school memory foams. Next up is the Nolah mattress cover. They made their cover out of a natural viscose material. While it is not stain resistant or washable like the Puffy cover, it is moisture wicking cool and oh so soft.

Motion Transfer

motion transfer mattress review All-Foam mattresses are the best at eliminating motion transfer in a bed. The Puffy and Nolah mattress are no exception to this general rule of thumb. The Nolah we found to be especially good at eliminating motion throughout a bed.

This is mainly due to it’s slightly softer feel and memory foam comfort layer. These are both motion eliminating features that will help cut down on nearly all motion and vibration throughout the bed.

We do believe Nolah has a slight advantage over the Puffy mattress when it comes to motion transfer. However, both the Nolah and Puffy are excellent choices for anyone looking for a mattress that does a great job at limiting the amount of movement that goes through the mattress.

Sleeping Cool – Puffy vs Nolah

mattress sleeping cool When you are wanting to have a mattress that sleeps cool it is all about how a mattress handles heat. By that we mean that your body will always produce and let off heat into your mattress, so how it handles and removes that heat is how you know a mattress will sleep cool.

Hybrid mattresses rely a lot on their coil systems because it is such a great amount of airflow that gives heat a lot of space to escape from the mattress. All-foam mattresses used to be notoriously hot to sleep in. That is until brand like Nolah and Puffy realized that by using high end foams with different infusions can make a big difference in limiting the amount of heat retention within a bed.

Nolah uses their Airfoam on the top layer of the mattress to get as much airflow as possible near the body. This helps to keep heat from building up in the bed. This is also why they use an extra breathable fabric in their bed. This does a pretty good job at remaining temperature neutral throughout the night.

Although we did find that the Puffy mattress slept a bit cooler. This is partially due to the fact that it has a firmer feel. Since you sleep more on top of the mattress than sinking into the Puffy bed, this allows for a lot more airflow around your body. This is very helpful when it comes to sleeping cool. Puffy also has multiple layers with different gel infusions into their foam. This gives you multiple layers of defense against heat retention and we found that it works rather well. Which is why we choose Puffy as the overall winner for sleeping cool.

Edge Support – Puffy Mattress vs Nolah

puffy mattress vs nolah edge support If we are looking at this Puffy vs Nolah, we are going to give the win to Puffy for edge support. While all-foam mattresses tend to struggle with edge support due to their lack of durable coil systems, we found that the Puffy manages to provide a rather solid amount of edge support. You can lay down on the top of the Puffy mattress right up to the edge and feel very little difference in support. While you will notice more dipping when sitting on the side of the mattress, we think it manages to do a great job especially for an all foam mattress.

The Nolah also does a pretty good job at edge support as well. It is rather similar to the Puffy in that you won’t feel much difference in support when you lay close to the edge of the mattress. However, you will again feel less support when sitting on the edge of the bed. It is really the higher firmness level of the Puffy mattress that gives it the upper hand with edge support. The slightly firmer feel makes the Puffy just that little bit more supportive around the edges overall.

Mattress Value

Between the Puffy and Nolah mattress we honestly feel that these prices are dead on with their quality and feel. While the Puffy mattress costs just a bit more than the Nolah mattress, we like it a bit more as well. Making the prices seem very in line with our preference level for each bed. Puffy vs Nolah Mattress Comparison Review – Overall:

What a great mattress comparison review to do. These two mattresses are such close competition to each other. 10” mattresses with 3 layers of foam that are both made in the USA? That also come in right around the same price range?! At that point how can you choose between the two? Well we will tell you. The comfort level is truly the biggest difference between the Nolah and Puffy mattress. It is also what effects the other features of the mattress like edge support and sleeping cool.

The Puffy is a medium-firm which works for most sleeping positions because it falls in that sweet spot. Since it is firmer than the Nolah it also sleeps cooler and a bit more edge support.

While the Nolah is closer to a Medium firmness level which is a bit softer and has more pressure relief. This is great for anyone who is a side sleeper who wants a little more contouring around their hips and shoulders. Which is really going to be how we would suggest picking between these two beds.
