Fall Design Trends of 2022
So what makes this year different than the previous years? Well, a few things we have noticed when it comes to decorating trends this fall is the use of classic patters and textures, like plaid, velvets and thicker knits but in a more neutral color palette.
Instead of the more traditional oranges, reds and yellows we are seeing a much broader use of color but in a more refined muted color scheme. Instead of a bright orange a more muted burnt orange, even borderline pastel orange. As well as muted olive greens and blues, light tans and ochre that give a more subtle incorporation of fall colors.
Not only are we seeing some softer colors, but also the “less is more” approach. With a focus on quality over quantity. This trend focuses more on the fact that with less to clean and minimal clutter allows for your bedroom to be more relaxing and less distracting.
While mixed textures, patterns and fabrics is always a good trend we especially love it in the fall months and continue to see this is a way of upgrading our spaces. This is still true for 2022 and we love it, especially for an easy and affordable seasonal upgrade.
And while minimalistic may be a new trend, we are still seeing plenty of cozy layering as well. Which is super cute bus also necessary when you aren’t sure if you will be hot or cold during this fluctuating season.
Add Autumn Touches & Textures
When it comes to adding inserts of fall we love textures and colors that let us snuggle up when there’s a chill in the air. With so many cozy patterns and options you really can get easily carried away with too many blankets and pillows. However, a few of our favorite fall 2022 bedroom trends will help you narrow down some classic styles that seem to always be in trend during autumn.
– Plaid Blankets
Playing with different textures can be a fun way to make your bedroom feel cozier for the colder seasons ahead. Plaid and striped throw blankets are especially popular this fall, and lets face it every fall!
Changing out your bedroom and living throws and blankets is a great trend to go with because it is inexpensive and very easy to change out. It also packs quite a punch, the classic texture of plaid or stripes gives a feeling of warmth and a touch of cabin vibes. They also are offered in a wide array of colors. Allowing you to go bold or be subtle, depending on what works best for you.
Plaid, tartan and stripes come in so many colors and so many textures and thicknesses that you’ll surely find your perfect throw. We especially love the more subtle fall colors of this gray and tan throw. It is the perfect amount of fall without being over the top.
– Knitted Blankets
Not into the plaid or striped look? No problem, never go with a trend just because it is trendy. There are plenty of cozy textured throws out there. Currently using large knit blankets is super on trend.
We especially love the Bearaby Napper blanket. It is large knit blanket, that just so happens to also be a weighted blanket. They also have a wide selection of seasonal color options that change to match the latest trends of the year. It is a fun way to integrate a little but of a fall colors and have a totally perfect napping blanket.
– Textured Pillows
We love textured pillows for all seasons, but with fall we love how the cozier textures really add a sense of warmth and depth. Beautiful knits that look like cozy sweaters, or soft velvety pillows that you just want to cuddle or the slightly courser textures that remind you of nature. Even the buttery feel and color or a leather pillow can really add a layer of depth and interest. Whatever you love there is a pillow for you.
This is yet another way to incorporate seasonal changes and trends without making a lasting commitment. While we love the look of a velvet couch the reality is that it is not only a trend but one that may appeal less in the spring and summer months. However, adding a velvet pillow or two to your classic bedding or couch adds a seasonal touch that can by quickly swapped out and updated.
Not only can you play with so many textures, but also colors. You can go with a neutral tone or a pop of your favorite seasonal color. Either way the added texture provides cozy fall feelings without being a large investment.
If you can, we suggest buying a standard throw pillow size so you can change out decorative pillow cases. This also cuts down on the space needed to store your seasonal items. We love this beautiful knit pillow case. It is a standard 18×18″ case that can swapped out seasonally or used year round too.
Similar to how we dress this time of year, the concept of layering is also ideal for decorating too. This not only seems to be a seasonal trend, but in 2022 we’ve seen layering in general to be a trend. There are so many ways to incorporate layers into decorating that the options are endless.
While you might think of layering your bedding and pillows there are other ways to add layering too. Another popular way to layer this season is with rugs. We love this cute and easy way to add some extra warmth and character to your bedroom. This not only doubles up on the warmth and comfort stepping out of bed, but creates a different look in seconds.
There are several cute ways to layer rugs. Whether you opt for smaller, individual size rugs on each side of the rug under your bed for an added touch. Or if you put a smaller thinner rug over your existing rug, you can’t go wrong.
We particularly like the idea of placing a slightly small decorative and colorful rug over a larger neutral rug. This not only allows you to add color and texture that is seasonal, but also keep your existing rug in a useful way. Layering and texture or color gives you two of the best 2022 Fall bedroom trends in one!
– Insert Pops of Seasonal Pattern
Different plaids, and even a good black & white gingham, immediately make a space feel like a fall cabin. However, you don’t want to feel like a hunter’s wardrobe has exploded all over your home.
When it comes to these bold patterns, keep in mind that a little goes a long way. You don’t need to go out and buy a full bedding set. Something as small as a throw pillow, or a blanket would do the trick.
We love the variety of fall colors and patterns that Batmerry pillows add to any room. And the Tartan pattern of the Arus Highlands Throw warms us up just looking at it.
– Use Metallic Touches
Adding soft metallic touches to your décor is an elegant way to add a few otherwise potentially kitschy fall decorations, like decorative pumpkins in bronze, brass, gold and silver.
There are glass pumpkins with gilded touches like these all over the place. We love the added warmth and light a little gilding can add to a bedroom.
Also, mercury glass and metallic candle holders are another slightly more subtle way to incorporate this trend. Whether you use a classic shape or more trendy design the same effect can be achieved.
This set of brass candlesticks is the perfect touch to easily incorporate the Fall 2022 bedroom trends. As well as adds a classic feel that has a sense of charm and warmth.
– Add Mood Lighting with Candles
Overhead lighting can be harsh but it is important to have lights in a bedroom, especially when the sun starts setting earlier in the evenings. This is one of the many reasons we love adding candles into the bedroom during the fall. Their soft moody lighting is gentle and comforting.
With so many great flameless candles you can capture the mood and feeling of candles without the hassle or danger too. We especially love these flameless candles that can operate on a timer or with a remote. They give off the perfect glow and if set right can turn off right around the time you fall asleep. Creating the perfect ambience.
Plus, there are plenty of cozy scented candles to choose from for fall. If you use lamps, be sure you put warm toned light bulbs. This will help keep your bedroom feeling cozy, blue, or cool, lights are harsh and make it difficult to get in the mood for sleep.
Our Favorite Fall Décor Styles of 2022
There are a few styles out there that are great for the entire year, but some that really shine their brightest in the fall. Below are a few design styles and trends that fully embody the cozy nature of the fall season.
Embrace the Hygge Trend
When it comes to fall we can’t help but think of getting cozy with fluffy socks, a good book and a yummy pumpkin spice latte. It is almost the most ideal time of year to describe the Hygge trend. If you haven’t heard of this style than learn more about it here. But, in short it is a literal way of creating a simple, cozy space & feel.
Using ambient lighting, simplistic yet comforting surroundings and nurturing an atmosphere of relaxation and slowing down sums up not only this design trend, but lifestyle trend too. The approach of a hygge inspired room is anything that allows you to calm your mind and body. This trend could be a little different depending on your needs, but it evokes a simplistic environment free of fast paced stresses.
It might sound like you need to overhaul your gadget filled life with strict removal, but it is more about finding balance and time to slow down. This can really be incorporated in several simple ways. Adding a few candles, even flameless, while dimming the lights, which works perfectly during the shortening days of fall.
As well as having an array of cozy, inviting blankets and pillows and even switching out your sheets for cozier flannel or cashmere. We also suggest adding a plant or two to create some improved air as well as life inside during those darker, colder months. When it comes to hygge it is really almost more of a vibe than anything, so enjoy it!

Go Shabby Chic
While there are similarities to the Farmhouse trend, Shabby Chic is definitely it’s own trend. With a bit more of a feminine and even provincial feel this trend is another that can shine during the fall. This somewhat whimsical design is the perfect balance of femininity and rustic. Creating a balance between the old and new.
This trend is one that is perfect for the bedroom, and is especially great anytime of year. The focus on using a variety of textures and patterns make for a bedroom that offers a welcoming feel. While the color palette is typically neutral and easy to build on with slight seasonal changes.
The idea of shabby chic is somewhat eclectic, but with a glamorous feel. An almost sloppy, yet pulled together look that always makes you want to jump into bed. Similar to your favorite sweatshirt that may be well worn, but still super cute, and oh so soft.
The focus on layering a variety of textures and feels makes this look perfect for changing up with new trends. For Fall Chic 2022 we suggest adding some of the beautiful muted colors that really shine this year. Muted plum and teal can really make a statement that feels cozy and welcoming at the same time.
Dried flowers are also a lovely way to add a fall feel with texture and color that compliments the season as well as creates a practical way of incorporating florals. And all the quilts and throws with so much texture, pattern and beauty are ideal for the autumn coolness.
Opt For A Neutral Base
When it comes to bedrooms we love having a neutral base that you can easily add seasonal changes and touches to. The look of a classic neutrals can range anywhere from black and white, to an array of tans. And everything neutral in between.
With a look that is still modern and always on trend, opting for a neutral palette gives you plenty of character while still allowing for lots of play too. The subtle changes that can help you shift through seasons creates a totally cute vibe without a lot of effort.
With neutrals being able to adjust to any color palette it can make it really simple to adjust seasonally. As well as allows you to try out a variety of options. Whether you like bright pops of color or a more subtle addition of neutrals, either works.
Even without adding a lot of seasonal changes a neutral color palette is beautiful during the fall. Even sticking with a neutral palette but changing the textures can make a huge difference too. Little things like adding flannel sheets, a thicker comforter or a cozier textured pillow sham can completely transform your bedroom without changing your underlying color scheme. Making your bedroom timeless and seasonal effortlessly.

Let Nature Influence Your Bedroom
Bringing the outdoors in anytime of year is a perfect compliment to the season. It not only offers a perfect match to the time of year, but is also usually quite affordable too. Below are some of the best 2022 Fall bedroom trends when it comes to adding nature to your room.
Bringing in a little bit of the fall harvest season into your bedroom is a fun way to bring a bit of the outdoors inside. One way to do this is with indoor plants. There are a handful of plants that survive well indoors and bring that fall foliage feeling as well. Below is a list of a few of our favorite indoor plants for fall.
- Crotons – the fun thing about this particular house plant is that it has a lot of the colors of fall foliage. The tips turn different shades of yellow orange and red as they age.
- Chrysanthemum – These potted flowers typically live outdoors but have been adapted to grow inside as well. They come in all different shapes, sizes, and colors. Many of their colors are beautiful for fall ranging from yellows and golds to burgundy.
- Burgundy Rubber Tree – this trendy house plant has dark waxy leaves and touches of burgundy shades on the underside of the leaves.
- Rosemary – Small potted rosemary plants make great indoor plants during fall. The beautiful piney scent alone is perfect for the fall to winter seasons.

– Faux Plants
We love real plants, but sometimes we don’t want the hassle, the mess or have the time to care for one more thing. Which is why faux plants and florals may be a great option for adding a touch of nature with out the nature. As well as a great focal point that can be changed seasonally to add the latest trends, colors and vibe.
While the beneficial air purifying properties of plants in the bedroom can be great, sometimes they aren’t a realistic option. And, when the seasons change having a few faux fall colored options can really transform your space.
We really love having one or two real and easy to care for plants in your bedroom, like a snake plant or ZZ plant. Than adding a few faux florals/plants that can be updated and changed with the seasons. This allows for the best of both worlds.
– Wheat & Pampas Grass
Another great option are dried grasses and plants. Any wheat, barley, or other dried grain typically harvested in the autumn season can add fun fall texture to a bedroom or any room. They also are easy to care for and can even be paired with other florals to make them work year round. Not to mention they are very popular this fall.
We particularly like a bit of dried pampas grass in a large ceramic vase or any other container you like. As well as any dried florals that may be bright in when blooming but after drying offer a muted color that is perfect for the fall. Some dried hydrangeas really add a fun focal point that can transition from the later summer right into fall, especially in a bedroom.
We love this affordable and lovely option of 4 different dried grasses. The look of them together is beautiful and can be used to add to other florals or by themselves to create a lovely look.
Other Bedroom Trends of 2022
While some of the below trends are more of a commitment than a seasonal throw, they do create some lovely outcomes. As well as offer a few upgrades to your bedroom that will keep it on trend year round.
Incorporate Darker Walls
If you open up a interior design magazine or hop on Pinterest you are bound to see living rooms, bedrooms, even bathrooms painted floor to ceiling in rich and darker hues. Dark evergreens, deep teals and rich plums are a few moody favorites that come to mind. Whether it is painting a wall, or furniture or even an entire room, deeper colors are definitely a trend that can look rich and lovely, especially in the fall.
It is very striking and makes quite the statement. However, painting an entire wall or bedroom is a big commitment that is expensive to reverse if you change your mind in the future. So if you are interested in making a major change just make sure you love the color and know what you are getting into first.
Otherwise, if you want a statement with less commitment we suggest getting a large room divider that is already the color you love, or painting it a darker color. Or even a set of curtains if you feel like splurging. This is much easier to change once the trend fades or you change your mind. And there are also cute furniture pieces like an upholstered headboard that can add the same statement with the same amount of time and energy to replace like paint.
Create a Cozy Reading Nook
If you have a little extra space or corner in your bedroom that is feeling a little bare, it may be the perfect space for a small reading nook, also cleverly known as a book nook.
All you really need is a comfortable chair, or two, for reading, a small table for a cup or coffee, and a book. A lamp or light source is also important.
These spaces are not only a great way to create a quite space for reflecting, reading or relaxing, but also can add a little place to add seasonal décor as well. We like to add a cozy throw blanket and cute pillow to create an everchanging space.
Even a scented candle that evokes the yearly smells makes a great addition too. This space can truly make a great space not only during the fall but all year round.
Upgrade Your Lighting
While this again is another larger commitment the fall is always a time of year when lighting sometimes gets noticed more. With the days getting longer and lights coming on earlier we pay more attention to not only our fixtures but how much light they put out. In bedrooms we love a softer glow that is more intimate.
While it may be nice to have a bright light while cleaning or doing laundry the harshness of a overly bright light on a cozy fall day can be off-putting. Which is when we may notice it is time for a lighting upgrade. This not only offers up the opportunity for a new lighting fixture but also the option of a dimmer that can really go a long way with providing the most ideal lighting.
We really love small to medium chandeliers for bedrooms. While it may require a little bit higher ceiling, the look is romantic and elevates the look of your bedroom. If you don’t have the room size or space to house a chandelier than a wonderful option is a more ceiling light that offers a softer look that has a shade. There are so many beautiful options for lighting these days that the options are endless. And the upgrade is well worth it.
Another option is to completely ditch the celling light all together. With a pair of beautiful table lamps on your nightstands that may be all the lighting you need. Depending on your lighting preferences this can make your room really romantic as well as add a more simplistic design.
